1. The Nature of the Reference
Oakley Residents Directory is a privately operated reference to public rolls, record indexes, and historical collections concerning Oakley, Contra Costa County, and California. It does not host government records and is not affiliated with Oakley City Hall, a county office, a court, a library, or another records custodian.
2. Acceptable Use
Use the reference only for lawful purposes. You may not use it or anything reached through it to:
- Stalk, harass, intimidate, threaten, or harm another person
- Locate someone protected by a restraining or protective order
- Commit identity theft, fraud, or another unlawful act
- Make FCRA-regulated decisions about credit, employment, tenant matters, or insurance
- Scrape, copy, or republish pages at scale
- Interfere with the service, its security, or its availability
3. No Consumer Reporting Agency
The reference is not a consumer reporting agency as that term is defined by the Fair Credit Reporting Act, 15 U.S.C. section 1681 and following. Nothing on Oakley Residents Directory, and nothing returned by a linked search provider, is a consumer report. It may not be used to decide eligibility for credit, employment, housing, insurance, or another purpose regulated by the FCRA.
4. External Links and Tools
County and state portals, libraries, archives, and sponsored search tools operate under their own terms and privacy policies. For federal case access, the PACER site publishes its own account, fee, and use rules. Oakley Residents Directory does not control their content, availability, prices, results, or data practices and is not responsible for what happens after a visitor leaves the reference.
5. No Warranties
The reference is provided “as is” and “as available.” No warranty is made that a page, office detail, fee, coverage date, link, search result, or external portal is accurate, complete, current, secure, or continuously available.
6. Liability Limits
To the fullest extent allowed by law, the operators are not liable for direct, indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or similar damages arising from use of the reference or a linked resource, including a decision made from a record found through it.
7. Indemnification
You agree to defend, indemnify, and hold the operators harmless from claims, demands, losses, and reasonable attorneys’ fees arising from your unlawful use of the service or your violation of these terms.
8. Copyright and Linking
Original writing, design, logo, and layout are protected by copyright. Ordinary links and short attributed quotations are welcome. Full-page republication and systematic copying are not permitted without written permission.
9. Changes to These Terms
The operators may revise these terms by posting a new version here. Continued use after the revision is posted means acceptance of the updated terms to the extent the law allows.
10. Suspension or Blocking
Access may be blocked or limited when a person violates these terms, abuses a search tool, threatens another person, or interferes with the service. The operators may act without advance notice.
11. California Law
California law governs these terms without applying conflict-of-law rules. The California Public Records Act, Government Code sections 7920.000 through 7931.000, governs public-record access through the appropriate custodian. The California Consumer Privacy Act and California Privacy Rights Act, Civil Code section 1798.100 and following, may apply to personal data held by a covered business. Those statutes do not turn this private reference into a records custodian.
12. Severability
If a court finds one provision unenforceable, the remaining provisions continue in effect.
